Ha Noi is ready for the 16th IMSO 2019
On the morning of November 25, the Ha Noi Department of Education and Training held a press conference to exchange information about the organization of the 16th IMSO International Math and Science Olympiad in 2019. With the theme “Thinking – Innovation Outstanding Skills”, this year’s competition will be held in Ha Noi with the participation of candidates from 24 countries and territories. The official compettion takes place from 27th to 30th of November 2019.

IMSO (International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary School) is an annual International Mathematics and Science Olympiad in English for primary students around the world, with the goal of helping them reach the fullest potental in Maths and Science. The first IMSO was organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia in 2003 with 11 countries’ participation. By 2011, the competition expanded to many countries outside Indonesia. Since then, the Competition has been held by the IMSO Committee in every host country and has become a prestigious annual international compettion, attracting more than 500 excellent candidates from more than 20 countries and territories in the world.
In 2019, Ha Noi – the capital of Vietnam is honored to host the IMSO 16th. This year’s competition gathers more than 1.7 thousand participants, including 719 candidates, 293 experts, officials, teachers, international observers from 24 countries and territories around the world. IMSO 2019 is divided into 2 groups: Group A (International) has 352 contestants and 197 experts, officials, teachers, international observers from 24 countries and territories such as: USA , Bulgaria, Singapore, Cambodia, China, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Taiwan …; Group B (Local) has 367 candidates and 96 officials and teachers from 22 districts in Hanoi.
The competition is implemented according to the International IMSO Committee’s regulations. The candidates of Mathematics and Science of Group A will participate in 3 sections: Theory 1 (Time: 60 minutes; Question type: Fill the answer in the answer sheet); Theory 2 (Time: 90 minutes; Question type: Detailed explanation directly on the exam questions); Discovering Math, Practicing Science (Time: 120 minutes. Question type: Fill out the answers and detailed answers in the answer sheet). Candidates must not use computers, computers and any documents. The judging is done publicly. Candidates taking the Examination of Group B only take Theory 1 and 2 .

Mr. Le Ngoc Quang – Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Education and Training said: “Through the contest, Hanoi Education and Training Sector – IMSO Organizing Committee 2019 wishes to contribute to encourage and promote the learning spirit in general and in Math and Science of primary school students from many countries in particular, building an academic environment, encouraging innovation, developing research in the learning process as well as establishing a cooperative network in teaching and learning Math and Science with international educational organizations, and strengthening the friendship between the younger generations among countries, enhancing international understanding and cooperation”
Joining IMSO 2019, the young representative contestants around the world will build beautiful friendships, harbouring beautiful images of Vietnam’s people and traditional culture. They will visit the famous sights of the Capital, enjoy Hanoi specialties and unique cultural features of Hanoi in particular and of Vietnam in general. In addition, the contestants will join the cultural Gala shows, in which they will have special performances to introduce their country and hometland.
The opening ceremony of the IMSO 2019 exam will take place on the morning of November 27, 2019 at Vietnam National Convention Center, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi. After that, activities of Group A – International Division will take place at La Thanh Hotel, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi; Group B (Local division) takes place at Hanoi – Amsterdam High School, Cau Giay District, Hanoi.
